AE

The Assistant Editor

Categories

Post Production, Editing

The Assistant Editor is a Post Production role that supports the Editor.

Once the footage has been ingested, the AE will build the Edit Workspace. They may produce proxies for the edit. They will synch audio and video (if not already done). They will label the clips and sort into bins. they will review the takes and label the best ones. They may arrange a transcript of the dialogue for an initial paper edit. They export the dailies to go to the Director, Producer, and DP to be able to review the footage.

On an AOTS project, we often don't have the luxury of an AE. The DIT would synch audio and video, and potentially make proxies. The Editor would do the full edit from start to finish.
